A Screen showing RISE with SAP word

Rise with SAP is a new way to license SAP software that is designed to be simpler, more flexible, and more affordable. It is a subscription-based model that includes all of the software, maintenance, and support that you need to run your business. Before we delve into the details, let's first get a general understanding of Rise with SAP.

What is RISE with SAP?

RISE with SAP is a subscription-based offering that helps businesses of all sizes transform their operations with SAP S/4HANA Cloud. It combines SAP's best-in-class cloud ERP suite with technical and business expertise from SAP and its partners to provide a comprehensive transformation solution.

What is the concept of FUE?

FUE stands for "Full Usage Equivalent", it's one of the key features of RISE with SAP which simplifies the licensing model and provides flexibility in utilizing SAP solutions. FUE allows businesses to adapt to their evolving needs and leverage SAP's technology more effectively.

Key Features of the FUE Concept:

  1. Simplicity: FUE simplifies the licensing process. Instead of dealing with complex licensing structures, organizations can choose from a range of services and solutions, ensuring they only pay for what they need and use.

  2. Flexibility: With FUE, businesses can easily adjust their usage of SAP solutions as their needs change. Whether you need to scale up or down, FUE ensures that your licensing model can adapt to your evolving requirements.

  3. Transparency: FUE provides a transparent and predictable pricing model. You know exactly what you are paying for, which helps in better financial planning and management.

Scenario: XYZ Corporation's SAP Licensing with Corrected FUE Metrics

XYZ Corporation is a medium-sized manufacturing company that uses various SAP solutions under the RISE with S/4HANA Cloud Service. They want to calculate the number of Full Use Equivalent (FUE) units they need for different user categories using the updated metrics.

Usage Metric:

  • 1 FUE = 0.50 SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Developer Access

  • 1 FUE = 1 SAP S/4HANA Cloud for advanced use

  • 1 FUE = 5 SAP S/4HANA Cloud for core use

  • 1 FUE = 30 SAP S/4HANA Cloud for self-service use

User Categories:

  1. Professional Users (Advanced Use): These are employees who require full access to specified SAP solution capabilities. This includes IT administrators, finance managers and department heads. XYZ Corporation has 40 professional users, and they all fall under the "Advanced Use" category.

  2. Functional Users (Core Use): Functional users require access to specific modules or functions within SAP. This category includes customer service representatives, inventory managers, and HR coordinators. XYZ Corporation employs 100 functional users, all classified under "Core Use."

  3. Productivity Users (Self-Service Use): Productivity users need occasional or limited access to specified SAP solution capabilities. These users might include temporary staff, contractors, or external partners. XYZ Corporation has 90 productivity users, all categorized as "Self-Service Use."

  4. Developer Users (Developer Access): Developer users, including SAP programmers and coders, need access to development and testing environments. XYZ Corporation has 1 developer user, all classified under "Developer Access."

Determining FUE Allocations:

To calculate the FUE allocations for each user category, XYZ Corporation uses the provided metrics:

  • FUE for Professional Users (Advanced Use): 40 professional users * 1 FUE per user = 40 FUE units.

  • FUE for Functional Users (Core Use): 100 functional users * 0.2 FUE per user = 20 FUE units.

  • FUE for Productivity Users (Self-Service Use): 90 productivity users * 0.033 FUE per user = 3 FUE units.

  • FUE for Developer Users (Developer Access): 1 developer users * 2 FUE per user = 2 FUE units.

Total FUE Requirement:

To calculate the total FUE requirement, you simply sum the FUE units for each user category:

Total FUE Requirement = FUE for Professional Users + FUE for Functional Users + FUE for Productivity Users + FUE for Developer Users

Total FUE Requirement = 40 FUE + 20 FUE + 3 FUE + 2 FUE

Total FUE Requirement = 65 FUE units

In this example, XYZ Corporation would need a total of 65 FUE units to cover the licensing requirements of their professional, functional, productivity, and developer users, according to the specified FUE metrics. This ensures that each user category has the appropriate level of access to SAP while efficiently managing SAP licensing under the RISE with S/4HANA.
